As our roster rollout continues, the Clovers are happy announce our next 3 players for the 2024 season. Connor Witherington (North Florida University), Hugh Collins (UNC-Chapel Hill) & Thomas Watson (West Alabama) are primed to be big pieces for the Clovers in 2024.
Connor Witherington is a redshirt freshman from Birmingham Alabama. He spent his freshman season at the University of North Florida as a redshirt and focused on the weight room and getting acclimated to the division one grind. Connor will see time behind the plate, as well as 1B for the Clovers this summer.
Hugh returns to the Clovers after a shortened stint with the team last summer. Collins had to go to summer school so he only made 2 starts for the Clovers in 2023. This summer he joins the pitching staff in a full time role and will make a huge impact in our starting rotation. In 2 starts last summer he was 1-1 and pitched 13.1 innings to a 3.07 ERA while logging 6 strikeouts. Hugh pitched against the #1 seeded Brunswick Surfin Turfs and the ONSL Champion the Pineville Porcupines so he had a tough challenge as a 2023 high school grad. We are excited to have the southpaw back home in Clayton for the 2024 summer!
Thomas Watson is set to join the Clovers this season from Birmingham Alabama. A high school team mate with Witherington, Watson is a catcher/outfielder at the University of West Alabama. Watson comes strongly reccomended from the UAW coaching staff and we are excited to watch him grow in Clayton this summer. A strong presence at the plate and the defensive flexibility is just what the Clovers need in 2024.
